Cut as an extension of the bodice, the dolman sleeve is designed without a socket for the shoulder, creating a deep, wide armhole that reaches from the waist to a narrowed wrist. Also called a batwing sleeve.
A style of closure in which one edge of a garment overlaps another with a double row of buttons or other fasteners.
Double Layer Top:
A layered look with one T-shirt over another, usually connected.
The hang or fall of fabric when made into a garment.
Dropped Shoulders (aka Off-the-Shoulder Neckline):
Characterized by the shoulder/sleeve seam falling off the shoulder.
Dropped Waist/Low Waist:
A waistline that is sewn below the body's natural waistline – also called a low-slung waistline; intended to visually help lengthen the torso.
A process in which fabrics are engraved with the use of heated rollers under pressure to produce a raised design on the fabric surface.
An embellishment of a fabric or garment in which colored threads are sewn on to the fabrics to create a design. Embroidery may be done by hand or machine.
A style that is designed with a high waist to create a flattering sweep.
Seams that are sewn directly below the bustline.
This waistline begins just below the bust.
A fabric punched with decorative holes embroidered with purl stitching.
A French word meaning imitation or fake. Used most often in connection with gems, pearls, leathers, and furs.
A smooth sweater knit garment that has little or no texture.
Refers to a fit that conforms to your body. Not as loose as a casual or relaxed fit.
Pants that flare at the hem. Also called bell-bottoms.
Flat Front Pants:
Straight pants, often seamless and pocketless.
Wool or synthetic fabric with an extremely soft napped finish. A very popular lining for jackets, pants & sweatshirts.
A type of raised decoration applied to the surface of a fabric in which an adhesive is printed on the fabric in a specific pattern.
Loose-fitting, tapered sleeves that fall in folds over the arm to give it a flowy, wavy look.
Form-fitting/slim fit is used to refer to clothing that fits close to the body. Garments considered form-fitting/slim fit do not have extra fabric draping or hanging anywhere.
A woven fabric, usually cotton, with loop pile on one or both sides.
