On April 1st, 1991, the NCAA National Championship landed at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis. This title game was no April Fools Day joke, as the Duke Blue Devils and the Kansas Jayhawks were all business in their quest for the national championship. Duke entered the championship game as the #2 seed in the mid-west region and Kansas came in as the south region's #3 seed. Coached by the great Mike Krzyzewski, the Blue Devils won a nail biter in the semifinals against UNLV to advance to the championship game. On the other end of the court, the Kansas Jayhawks, led by Coach Roy Williams, earned their trip to the title game with a victory over North Carolina in the semifinals. When the final buzzer sounded, the Duke Blue Devils had won the 1991 national championship with a 72-65 victory, giving Coach Mike Krzyzewski his first national championship. Duke was led by the tournament's Most Outstanding Player in Christian Laettner, as he racked up 125 total points.
